Six months ago, the No. 1 charity in St. Petersburg, Fla.,
planned to hold an event in mid-April that would feature
Susan Sarandon as its luncheon speaker.

The St. Petersburg Times was purportedly a sponsor of the
April event. Sarandon's brother is a sports writer for the
paper and was apparently the one who had asked his sibling
to come.

Of course, not everyone's been happy with Susan
Sarandon's antics of late. In fact, United Way began hearing
from people who threatened to withdraw their contributions
if Sarandon appeared at the Florida event.

As fate would have it, Sarandon's invitation was withdrawn
and the event was scrapped. The actress indicated that she
was troubled by the charity's decision to cancel her
appearance.

In a statement, Sarandon said that "it is disturbing to me that
the United Way is letting partisanship determine its support
base."

The Left Coast Report recalls that last October this Banger
sister encouraged an assembled crowd, which was carrying
"Bush Sucks" signs, waving Iraqi flags and chanting "George
Bush, you can't hide. We charge you with genocide!" Guess
partisanship is in the eye of the disturbee.
