The inspections were a ridiculous game of hide and seek which should never have been played for a decade without accomplishing their goal. Inspections should have been accomplished quickly with the full and active cooperation of the Iraqi government and due military force should have been used to enforce this, if necessary. The fact that unending open-ended perpetual inspections in a country larger than California with a police state government and massive secret police and internal intelligence agencies shows that key Security Council members had come to be unsupportive of Res. 687.
