My guess is that time will prove that the outcome is much closer to your first choice.

How many Iraqi lives would have been saved over the last 13 years if the present regime was taken out? A sacrifice was not taken and the cancer spread through more generations.

On a whole for both nations it should be a win / win. For some of the people who die as a consequence this may not be of a value.
