[partnering]
<<As we have discussed many times in this thead, none of these small companies will succeed without partnering with a larger company. Both Westell & Aware seem to be a lot more realistic in this regard.>>
please don't take this as a knee-jerk response, but how is AWRE/ADI being more prudent in its partnering than AMTX/MOT?
let's review.
AWRE has USRX/COMS and AWRE/ADI has Hayes. They also have ASND, DSC, Teltrend, and PAIR but none of those partners have announced any DMT plans yet so i don't give them full weight. I'll add also that USRX and ASND "purchased" (AWRE's word, not mine) AWRE's DMT technology, so royalty streams seem unlikely.
AMTX/MOT have WSTL, ERICY, Siemens, and NetSpeed. WSTL is supplying ADSL non-exclusively to DSC and LU. AMTX/MOT also has Cabletron, who has not yet announced DMT plans so again is not given full weight. We'll have to see who AMTX/TXN line up behind their C6x-based DMT solution. AMTX also has reseller and/or integration relationships with Siemens, NEC Japan, NEC USA, Sumitomo, and Samsung for AMTX-labeled modems and concentrators. There's the VDSL partnership with NEC. Finally, we have the prospect of Alcatel and ADI signing license agreements with AMTX, which will help out a little too.
So, I guess i have a hard time with the recieved notion that AMTX is being unrealistic or slack about partnering.
