Hi again Malcolm. Not believing in the Flynn Effect is like not believing in atmospheric pressure or gravity. It's not theory, it's observable, quantifiable fact.

Flynn was setting out to prove something which the Flynn Effect proved wasn't correct. Being a scientist, he was stuck with the data and had to work with it whether he liked it or not.

If you haven't seen the data, of course you won't believe in it, but you only need to look at Flynn's data, which I suppose exists since it's all bona fide peer reviewed stuff.

I have my own theories on why the Flynn Effect is, but they are just theories to explain the facts. The facts themselves are just boring scientific data. Measured IQs. No magic or theorizing needed. Just line them up and measure them. Simple.

The trick is to come up with hypotheses to explain the observed facts.

The fact is that average IQs are not actually dropping, despite the conventional wisdom that the low IQ people do more breeding than the high IQ people. That applies to many countries around the world.

I don't believe average white males of the 19th century had a bigger vocabulary than average white males now. If you limit the test to politicians, I doubt that it's true either.
