It tends to say that it can't find out the numbers of Iraqi dead - that's why I figure it's because this info isn't being broadcast by anyone. Here and there it has given casualty figures, often in the hundreds - often mentioning that these are intercepts from US/UK forces.

I wouldn't be in the least surprised if mosques etc. are stuffed with troops... Saddam's a secular dictator. His people aren't, but are unlikely to focus on this... he'll probably portray it as him being desperate to guard & protect these. His troops may well be sincere in that; or they may be just as hypocritical as the IRA hiding behind the Catholic Church. Basically as they see it, if we attack their holy sites, we're the bad guys. While if we want anyone ever to believe we're good guys, we can't just go and flatten certain places even if we're sure they're hiding fighters. Else we're just as evil, and more to the point we'll have the entire Muslim Umma out to kill westerners (well, US/British); what price our freedom and security then?

Personally I figure it's up to the great brains - you know, the ones who got us into this by invading Iraq - to figure a way out of this that won't cover us all in sh*t and leave us fighting terrorists for the next 200 years... maybe you've more faith in them than me.
