Approval ratings during a war are heavily skewed to the Prez. Any Prez. Moderates generally give the Commander In Chief their support while the fighting is going on, or even leading up to the war and right after. Bush Sr. hit 90% and lost 18 months later with lesss than 40% of the vote.

The real poll to pay attention to is the latest one about who you'd vote for in 2004. Bush 44%, Unnamed Democrat 48%. That means most people want a change, even many who find Bush generally likeable. And yes, Bush is a likeable guy. Quite a charmer. SO was Clinton. Clinton had 60% approvals after Monica Lewinsky. The right-wing hates that and keeps trying to tear him down years after he's left office. They know a Democrat can still get a nice majority of the vote, especially with a bad Bush economy.

Bush also doesn't have any competition now. No democratic leader nomoinated to take him on and get the message out. That will change in about 6 months when the pres focuses more on the upcoming elections and Kerry and others will be more in sht spotlight. By the time Kerry is nominated (my prediction) he and Bush should be running neck-in-neck. Kerry might even be ahead. It's all going to come down to the economy. By then, the Iraq War wont matter.

Plus almost no discussion of domestic and economic issues since August of last year when Bush started the war talk. That is unheard of. But is is one reason Bushies love wars, politically speaking that is.
