'Breakthroughs' in race to Baghdad? The stock market believed it! Well possibly - we have to rely on the implanted media with the US forces for our 'news'. But in 2 short weeks we've had our fill of misinformation. Tariq Aziz said a few days ago (paraphrased) 'they don't expect us to leave our forces out there lined up like sitting ducks do they?' It would seem foolish tactically. So maybe the US forces have been hitting abandoned positions and the Republican Guard have withdrawn incrementally to the city of Baghdad - where they will make their last bloody stand. Since Rumsfeld has said that only unconditional surrender is acceptable what alternative do they have except to fight to the last. It's impossible to know what to believe from so called news sources on either side - except the Iraqis have been more accurate re casualty figures to date. They make the claim, the 'coalition' deny it and a day or two later it usually turns out to be true.
