I've heard it claimed that they where forced to try to crash the checkpoint by threat of other family members being killed.

But then that is someone claiming that they heard from someone else that there was a rumor that people in Iraq had said this. It doesn't add up to a very reliable source to say the least.

Either way its one of the many small horrors of war (not small to those people and their families of course).

I figure the war will cause less death and suffering then years more of Saddam+sanctions. But any untimely death of innocent people is not a good thing. Lets hope we can get this over with in a reasonable amount of time and build a reasonably free and safe Iraq after the guns and bombs stop.
