Aren't even the Kurds really in the same boat tribaly I mean ? You have Assyrians and other groups in the mix too. Is it too different from Afghanistan in that respect ? Then there is the Ali vs Mohammed issue.
The tribal / clan / ethnic / religious issue is why I agreed with Hawkmoon's point on a firm outside intervention being required. I don't think the 'coalition' is the right vehicle by a longshot to accomplish that once the war is done but those folk are unlikely to join the 21th century anytime soon otherwise...

Interestingly one of the Kurdish groups was pointing out all their accomplishments in the vein of schools etc due to the safety of the NO-FLY zone, so maybe small (I hate to Balkanization) countries would be the solution. Then of course who gets the oil will be an issue. Pretty complex. I'm glad it's not my job :o)
