I guess that because the Iraqis themselves smoke, they are not particularly sensitive to smell of tobacco and so this should not be a concern.

The smell of tobacco betraying presence of US troops should be no concern in the wide open areas since the US is on a roll pushing the Iraqis back. The Iraqis are very aware of the presence of the US troops even in the absence of tobacco smells.

However, those involved in secret operations a la James Bond 007 will have to be careful, I guess.

I don't understand why the US Army had not issued nicotine patches to its troops.
