Qualcomm restarts Globalstar phone production. Globalstar is currently experiencing shortages of QUALCOMM car kits and fixed radio access unit or RAU. QUALCOMM has restarted production of these units, but its current production capacity is limited, and components required to build the units as currently designed may not be available for future production. It continues...... Contracts between Ericsson OMC Limited ("Ericsson") and Globalstar that provided for the manufacture and delivery of both mobile and fixed phones were terminated during 2001. However, Globalstar has Ericsson fixed access units in storage that are available for sale. So it's interesting that Qualcomm has restarted Fixed Phone production because quanities are low, yet Globalstar has a large supply of Ericsson Fixed phones, in which they just lowered the price to move the inventory! Globalstar Introduces New, Low-Cost Fixed Satellite Phone Unit globalstar.com So if Globalstar has this large inventory of low cost Ericsson Fixed Phones, why has Globalstar's inventory of Qualcomm Fixed Phones been exhausted which has pushed Qualcomm into restarting the production line for their Fixed Phone product? Qualcomm is on a Cash Only basis for these phones, and I am sure there was a cost involved in restarting the production line on Qualcomm's part. I would suspect that the new production run of Qualcomm Fixed Phones would be more expensive than the Ericsson phones in stock? PCSTEL
