You, however, will never accept the proposition that the invasion was a good idea even if 15 years from now the history books and the face of the Middle East establish that it was. As you like to say, you will have "moved on."

I'm tempted to type another "chuckle" here, since you have no serious idea as to what I'll do in 15 years. Most likely you'll still be typing here and I'll be gone, permanently so. If, however, the 15 years timeline consists of a permanent US military presence in the ME, sharp tensions with the locals, increasing amounts of the US budget allocated to military occupation and less and less to service social needs at home and abroad, then I will definitely consider it wrong.

I think you need to remember that, at least at the moment, this whole campaign, meaning its future embodiments as well--Syria, Iran, whatever--involves reshaping the ME for our security needs. Serious democracy would mean governments deeply opposed to US interests. Not going to happen, at least with the crowd now running things in the US.
