The assistance to the UK was in the form of lend lease - it all had to be paid back and some of it was paid in gold reserves and territories and you may not be aware that Britain as a 'victor' was not a benificiary of the Marshall Plan. And so you're absolutely clear about this, Britain's situation in no way parralels that of Iraq - which America is in fact invading not liberating as people like you would have it. If Britain had not held out so bravely on it's own for so long who knows what America would have been able to do? It only came into the war because of Pearl Harbor it should be noted - before that there was little support in America for intervention in Europe.
