Ellison Turns Coy When Talk
Turns to Political Affiliation

Rummy, Screened

Oracle Corp.'s Larry Ellison isn't shy when it comes to sharing his opinions on just about everything. But Mr. Ellison has been coy when it comes to talking about his political bent.

A lot of people in Silicon Valley speculate that Mr. Ellison leans to the left, given that Oracle in the past has hired Beltway insiders such as Joe Lockhart, former White House Secretary to former President Bill Clinton. For a while, rumors abounded that Mr. Ellison was trying to lure Mr. Clinton to take an Oracle board seat.

At a meeting with Wall Street Journal editors and reporters this week, Mr. Ellison didn't shed much more light on where he stands but he did express concerns about one member of the current administration: Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld. Mr. Ellison's concern, however, didn't necessarily stem from the war -- which he supports. "My fiancee actually has a screen saver of Donald Rumsfeld on her computer," Mr. Ellison quipped. "It makes me a little nervous."
