Why not remember both ?

Mainly because there's so much that's productive work that needs to be done that stupidity on the part of certain people in France (for example) doesn't merit a lot of effort. I've also seen time and again that making or maintaining enemies doesn't lead anywhere, both in turf wars I've observed at work as well as in life outside the workplace. It's the same in international politics, or at least should be.

I think it's better to look at Germany - they've been lumped with the anti-invasion crowd and strongly criticized by certain people in Washington, we should pull our bases out, yada yada.... but actions speak louder than words. Germany has not taken measures to deny the US use of the American hospitals in Germany, the news often contains references to troops passing by our bases in the country. If Germany really wanted to impede our war effort there is a lot they could have done besides merely voting against the measures.
