That is much closer to the truth. We do have to start somewhere, and this is a good opportunity to get going. But then you have to concede that opportunism plays just as much into the equation as "liberating the Iraqi people" or "eliminating a brutal dictator."

I don't mind what we are doing. What I mind are the countless rationalizations that we come up with to make ourselves feel better about it. I am not ashamed to admit that this is about self-interest, plain and simple. Self-interest, combined with the muscle to make it happen.
