Since when is Israel secular? the state sponsored schools of Israel are secular , zonder , since The Compulsory Education Law of 1949 ...they are quite different from the concept of Madrassas. Though there are private religious schools that do teach religious studies this is not the majority. The early Zionists' ideals were fundamentally based on socialism , and the state was not set up to be run by the clergy ever or any known single religious faction or entity , at least last time I looked . Most Israeli Jews share the formative experience of compulsory military service as well, and come from a wide diverse background and countries of origin.
