Didn't realize that. I'm with you that Saddam is dead or otherwise removed from the game.

Yeah... it was reported the other day by some pundit on Fox.. Quite observant of him (or whoever first recognized it), I thought...

Saddam's praetorian guard are notorious for their "vetting" procedure, constantly being tested for loyalty. In exchange they receive all of their societal privileges and considerable wealth (or opportunity to steal with impunity)..

So for this guy to leave Saddam's side would essentially mean that his loyalties had shifted to whoever he perceived as being his new patron, in this case the Defense Minister... So it's pretty rational to conclude that Saddam is either dead, or incapacitated, and that same thing can be said for his sons. Otherwise, they would have stepped into Saddam's shoes as replacement.

So now it's likely the Defense Minister is hoping to strike a deal, while keeping the Iraqi people under the belief that Saddam remains in power until he is able to consolidate his power and be seen as the guy to deal with.

And that's why we issued the demand for unconditional surrender. There will be no ceasefire this time around. Nor will their be any negotiations or sweetheart deals.

Their only option is to surrender or flee...

Good to chat with you again Bob!!!
