Why should the US change it stance on unconditionally supporting Israel when it can't get Arab neighbors of Israel to agree to recognize that the country even exists. So far, the PA has had a total inability to live up to its promises, ie to forgo the use of terror. Stop the terrorism, get back to the negotiating table and then there is a possibility of the US changing its position on Israel. The 2000 peace plan is relevant to this discussion because its failure shows that the PA wanted something other than peace.
