Clinical psychology, must, by it's nature, deny any faith-based system that postulates a higher unseen reality. i.e. they would say deluded, neurotic or worse.

I have no problem with anyone in government being motivated by "faith." When you get down to it -- Everyone is motivated by a "faith" - it is a question of where that "faith" is placed. By faith I understand that I am not without error or weakness or sin, but that is not an impediment to my serving "greater ends."

What bothers me a great deal is "faith" on-a-sleeve or "irrational faith" (again -- the term is not redundant, IMHO), as it were ...

I also disdain worship of the state -- many forms of what others call patriotism. I am patriotic, but differently and tempered by the view that "nations" are never righteous, per se ...

Worship of man's intellect is the worst form of idolatry, IMO.
