I'm closing down this portfolio - now that the portfolio is all-cash, it's now easy to call it quits. The reason is I no longer have time to maintain this thread.

I'll let the record stand for itself - the portfolio preserved capital between the beginning of 2001. In the two and a quarter years since opening the first position, the portfolio has accumulated nearly 15% worth of gains (9.6% compounded annually over 2.25 years), compared to a 17.2% loss in the underlying index (17.2% is derived from a 19% loss in capital minus 1.8% of dividends in the meantime). I don't recall that there was a greater than 10% peak-to-trough decline in networth - the volatilty of the portfolio was far from gut-wrenching.

Although the growth seen the portfolio is not quite what I expected, it did outperform the underlying index in the meantime. Good luck on your future investments.
