I've not followed the Taber's story in detail and don't exactly know why she would need a landed immigrant status to live here with her sisters. A landed immigrant status qualifies a person for free medical care at the expense of Canadian tax payers.

It may not apply to Taber's case, however I'm tired of anyone applying for landed immigrant status to take advantage of the free Canadian medical system. Many stories have been told of wily foreigners putting one foot in Canada just for the insurance ticket of free medical care. Bleeding hearts... we Canadians are. Our system is being exploited by unscrupulous people and we continue to allow them to do so. If there is a National party promising to tighten up our immigration system, it would get my vote. I can see bringing earnest people to contribute building our young nation, but pleeze, no bleeding heart stories. Would our neigbour in the South, with all the wealth and military power, be willing to break immigration policy to sponsor an elderly Canadian?
