It is obvious that the writer has missed few points

1. Arabs are no Europeans or Germans for that matter (Berlusconi of Italy defined them a while ago)

2. Untrained people were fighting battle hardened troops at a time that both sides had the same type of arms and technological advantage.

3. The Russian army fought under a dictator - Stalin - who wanted to make sure that as many as possible Russian "Berlin liberators" should not come home and endanger his rule.

4. "Friendly fire" which was intentional in many case killed and wounded scores of Russian forces, some a direct result of rivalry and "which Russian army General" will take Berlin.

5. For political consumption Stalin wanted to make the Berlin fight as bloody as possible and used it successfully later against the Western alliance in his propaganda machine for many years to come.

I could outline many other factors, but those are the main differences IMHO
