Here is what I said.

It was not in the control of the Kurds.
If it was - why did they kill several Kurdish leaders last month.
If it were Iran's control they would have been based in Iran.

The question is how much control did Saddam have over them.
Does seem odd right before the war, the group killed
the Kurdish leaders. Clearly they were helping Saddam.
