But Tikrit is a cancer on Iraq, a privileged city under Saddam's rule and a source of strength for his savage clan. If necessary, we should make an example of it.

So, what do you think, BBM? Turn it into "Carthage?" Raze it to the ground and salt the earth?

This strategy leaves the enemy an escape route so he won't feel obliged to fight to the death. That's why we haven't bombed that stream of Iraqi forces running for their lives. No "highway of death" this time. Just a highway of cowards. We want the remnants of Iraq's military to leave Baghdad.

Bad way to go, IMO. The Baathists in Syria and Iraq are blood brothers. Going to be very hard to dig them out. And what if Saddam goes into hiding there, and we can't prove it? Big Mistake, IMO. Saddam could already be in Syria.
