Give the pesky lower classes the vote and they'll start rearranging things to suit themselves.-g-

Democracy and capitalism can work together when there is a strong middle class composed of small business owners that have an interest in not putting all the lower class on the dole. In other words, a nation whose populace is composed of a majority capitalists.

That's why the Red Zone/Blue Zone phenomenon. People on the dole move to cities because it's easier to get access to public services. More small business owners outside the cities. Also farmers, who are on their own form of the dole, so we have the farm subsidies.

I don't know enough about the Canadian system of government but my impression is that Canada's income is primarily from natural resources, not manufacturing. We buy y'all's natural resources and sell you finished goods. Classic Third World scenario only more upscale than most.
