A lot of Texans are ashamed Bush is from Texas. The GOP only won the November elections there by about 5%. At least one of them. And that during a Bush Iraq War blitz where there was tremendous peer pressure to back Bushies. Especially in Texas.

I go see my parents in Houston once in awhile and at their cocktail parties, even Republicans are fed up with Bush.
My parents friends are all well-to-do Houstonians. Some of them even know the Bushes. One of them even has a son getting rich at Carlyle Group. Very few are Democrats. But a lot of them want someone new in the WH. I was surprised, frankly.

They dont like Bush's hard-right tactics, his terrible economy, his lack of concern for health care and education, all the increased pollution he allowed to happen in the Houston area during his tenure or his close affiliation with Enron and the coverup of it. Frankly, they just dont trust Bush anymore, if they ever did.

One Texas lady who owns a steel mill and is a life-long Republican talked to me about Kerry and said she'd vote for him next time. Whatever her rationale, she cant stand Bush anymore and he really troubles her. The Dixie Chicks are hardly alone. In fact after the war wears off, their opinion may be back in the majority.
