SAMSys' RFID Reader Used at Sun Microsystems' Worldwide Analyst Conference 2003

TORONTO, April 3 /CNW/ - SAMSys Technologies Inc. (SMY:TSX-VEN)
("SAMSys"), a world leading provider of radio frequency identification (RFID)
hardware solutions, today announced that its SARS MP9210 RFID reader was
successfully implemented within the Sun Worldwide Analyst Conference 2003
(WWAC 2003), held by Sun Microsystems, Inc. last month. SAMSys' readers were
integrated within a system developed by Sun to customize available content on
a user's desktop in the conference area and to track attendee's interest at
each session.
"Our RFID readers allowed Sun to provide their attendees with information
that is tailored to their specific needs," says Cliff Horwitz, Chairman and
Chief Executive Officer of SAMSys. "Sun's use of RFID technology is a perfect
example of creative and innovative adaptation of this flexible technology, and
its inherently unique benefits. We feel confident that the success enjoyed in
this initial implementation will lead to a much broader application in the
future."
WWAC 2003 attendees were provided with a Java Card (a smart card with
Java capabilities) containing a radio frequency (RF) tag which was
identifiable to the Sun Ray appliances stationed throughout the venue.
Attendees motioned their cards in front of SAMSys' RFID readers stationed
outside each session room in order to track their participation. The readers
were attached to Sun Blade systems that captured the data from the reader over
the serial port.
The program then sent the information to the network updating that
attendee's profile to indicate their presence at a particular session. Using
this information, Sun was able to further customize the content on the user's
desktop as well as track who attended which session. Attendees benefited from
this system by accessing personalized content and calendar information after
logging into the Sun Ray appliances with their Java Cards.
SAMSys offers a selection of reader solutions including standard
frequency-specific modules (SAMSys' SARS family of readers), custom-made
application specific reader systems, and OEM modules aimed at providing
tailored solutions for a wide variety of supply chain management applications.
The comprehensive line of RFID readers spans low frequency, high frequency and
UHF, supports a very broad range of protocols, and is available in a wide
range of form factors, including:

- packaged and ready to use low power readers,
- high power readers for demanding applications,
- smart shelves,
- modules for integration into OEM products,
- RFID reader networks for TCP/IP connectivity, and
- dual frequency readers at 125KHz/13.56MHz and 134KHz/13.56 MHz.
