SDI and Patriot are two very different systems. SDI uses laser beams. We have many types of missiles like the Harpoon that take can out incomings. SDI is Star Wars, renamed by the GOP. It has no practical use against anyone except China, thougb everyone agrees testing ought to go forward. Rumsfield rushed deployment after 9-11 while he could get the funds. Very expensive program which might not even work. Rumsfield's cronies are very happy. He delivered the bacon. A big chunk of pork if SDI proves to have no practical use. Kerry is for it by the way. However in giving his support prior to 9-11, he warned much more likely threats would be "an Anthrax of other WMD attack within US borders". He warned both Bush and Clinton but it didn't do any good.
