KT, sounds like the Duke was concerned about his image. In WWII many would enlist rather than wait for the draft. The advantage was you could choose the branch of service. My father and a few uncles enlisted before high school graduation. One uncle quit high school six weeks from graduation to join the navy - I just found this out a few months ago. Mike
