For a friend, I'm asking this question about Islamic eschatology:

He knows that, like Christianity and Judaism, Islam promises a final "end to history," a judgement day, for all souls.

What he is unable to determine is what is the Islamic expectation about the triggering event that will cause this ultimate day to come. Is it the successful extension of Islamic belief to all the peoples of the world? That seems to be hinted at, but I am not finding anything explicit for him....
