My guess is "Dise" was a typo that should have been "Disk", and whoever set up your machine intended to isolate a partition "D" on your disk to be used for backing up files in the main drive area "C". XP probably has a built in backup program that could be set to run periodically to backup certain folders like "My Documents".

If you open the directory for "D" and look at files and their creation/modify dates you can get an idea if any automatic activity is taking place. If not, you can just copy things you want to backup into the D drive. A localized failure of your C drive (losing some sectors) will not wipe out your backup files as long as the D area (physically separate on the physical drive) is not corrupted. I prefer having a second physical drive for backup, but a partitioned drive does afford a good measure of protection.

I expect others here know a lot more about what might be in XP to maintain your backups.
