New IDT Interprise Processor Drives Security into the Gateway and Wireless Access Markets

Monday April 7, 7:45 am ET

Targeted for Access Systems, New Processor Delivers High Performance and Increased Levels of Integration, Including On-Chip Security Engine

SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 7, 2003-- IDT(TM) (Integrated Device Technology, Inc.; Nasdaq: IDTI), a leading communications IC company, today unveiled its new RC32365 Interprise(TM) Access integrated communications processor with hardware-accelerated Internet Protocol Security (IPSec). To address the need for greater security in the small office home office (SOHO) gateway and wireless access markets, the new processor's on-chip security acceleration engine provides support for the latest security standards, including DES, 3DES and the advanced encryption standard (AES), and incorporates a true random number generator (RNG) to enable cryptographic applications. These security features combined with the integration of PCI and PCMCIA interfaces, Ethernet connectivity and the price/performance point of the RC32365 processor, make it an ideal solution for gateways, wireless access points, and VPN systems requiring advanced security.

This new device expands the breadth of solutions available from IDT that satisfy the divergent security needs of the small and medium Enterprise (SME), SOHO and residential gateway markets. The company's solutions range from two-chip implementations that pair an IDT integrated communications processor with a dedicated security engine from third-party partners, through low-cost integrated processors with software-based security algorithms. The RC32365 Interprise(TM) device is a single-chip device with an on-chip security engine that bridges the gap between the SME and residential gateway markets.

"The RC32365 device is the first in the Interprise(TM) Access family of integrated communications processors to incorporate hardware-based security acceleration. With its integrated features and high performance, our new Interprise(TM) RC32365 processor is ready to take the lead in driving security into the SOHO access markets," said Alex Soohoo, strategic marketing manager for the IDT Internetworking Products Division. "Indeed, the 'always-on' nature of broadband and wireless access coupled with the increased need for telecommuting, home office and branch office connectivity is making wire-speed security and virtual private network functionality imperative."

About the RC32365 Interprise(TM) Access Processor

The RC32365 integrated communications processor incorporates a 32-bit MIPS® CPU core operating up to 150 MHz, with an SDRAM memory controller and two Ethernet MACs with industry standard media independent interfaces (MII), providing connectivity to a wide range of networking devices and equipment. The new processor also integrates a 32-bit version 2.2 peripheral component interconnect (PCI) controller and a 16-bit PCMCIA version 2.1 interface. The PCI and PCMCIA interfaces provide system designers with a seamless connection to a range of peripherals and chipsets, including WLAN solutions. The processor is compatible with a range of popular embedded operating systems, including VxWorks® and Linux®.

IDT provides security-specific software to support the RC32365 processor. For customers wanting to port their own security stacks to the new device, a "crypto API" is offered that facilitates the integration of the customer's proprietary software with the RC32365 specific hardware drivers. IDT also provides an integrated shareware security package, called FreeS/WAN, based on the embedded Linux operating system. Finally, IDT is partnering with Intoto, a leading third party security software provider, to provide a complete, certified VPN/firewall solution for the RC32365 Interprise(TM) platform (see related announcement).

In addition, a suite of third party MIPS® software development tools is also available, including the MIPS GNU-based environment, which reduces project design cycles and improves time to market. The RC32365 processor is software compatible with the other members of the Interprise(TM) family, allowing customers to choose from a suite of proven off-the-shelf applications and tools, including Green Hills and Wind River.

IDT Interprise(TM) Family of Integrated Communications Processors
