Sources: Saddam And Sons May Be Dead

by Dan Lee, Ohio News Network

April 7, 2003

Several news outlets report the United States may have killed Iraqi President Saddam Hussein and his sons in air strikes Monday.

Military officials say the United States struck a "leadership target" in Baghdad.

The officials say the target is believed to be one or more of the top government or military leaders in Saddam Hussein's regime.

According to the sources, the strike was the result of "time sensitive" intelligence, meaning information which needed to be acted on quickly.

The military officials say they don't know the identity of the target of the strike, or whether the target or targets had been killed.

According to NBC, sources say a U.S. warplane dropped four large bombs Monday on a neighborhood where "extremely reliable" intelligence information said Hussein and his two sons were staying. The sources say Saddam could have moved before the planes struck, but if he and his sons were still there when the bombs hit, they are very likely dead.
