well i'm personally anti-democratic... i understand though that 99.99% of humanity loves the idea of majority rule... i guess most people think they're part of the majority or somesuch... so any 'real' democracy would be 'right-thinking' just like themselves...
...allende was a soviet agent... pinochet had to make things right... today chile is the most prosperous country in latin america... so he started with social tyranny and economic freedom, giving social freedom later... many people in the west - many of whom happen to be against this war - want social liberty (which they consider to be free sex, guaranteed jobs, health care, and schools) and to get rid of economic freedom... so it is interesting to contrast pinochet and say, singapore with their economic freedom and social restraint, against the west which is generally the opposite on both counts...
myself, regardless of the merits or pitfalls of pinochet; can see that freedom and democracy will never co-exist for any period of time... democracy is the doom of a civilization, society, or culture... the end of freedom, the tyranny of the majority... the only moral democracy is that which demands 100% agreement... color me a government abolitionist.... but i realize that too is pie in the sky because hystory shows again and again that the sheep will always demand their own fleecing... and if that's what you're after, 'majority rule' is a great foundation for such a scheme... |
