Dream on. We secretly bombed Cambodia, and unhinged the Khmer Rouge. We probably plotted to overthrow Prince Sihanouk, to replace him with Lon Nol and Sirkik Matak with whom we could "deal"- which meant Sihanouk became a symbol for the Khmer Rouge to rally around (sound familiar?). And of course at this time Nixon was working on his "Mad Man Theory". The people in our streets did Not get what they wanted. The people in the streets never wanted US bombers in Cambodia (and of course they weren't authorized to be there...ooops). Our involvement in SE Asia was a travesty- I only hope our involvement in the ME won't be the same- but we are a stupid and arrogant people, and we often royally screw up the folks we try to "help". "We're the US and we're here to help you"- when you hear that RUN the other way. imo The people to blame for the Khmer Rouge and the atrocities in Cambodia aren't the peace demonstrators- Cambodia wasn't even the mission- the military's mission was to kill and destroy the phantom forces hiding in Vietnam, we didn't give a crap about the Cambodians, as we proved.
