Gary >It is ironic. Israel has sought to defend itself from a world they feel threatened by, only to find that their methods have turned the world against them.
Even more than ironic but I don't know if there is a word to describe it.
To me, the extraordinary fact is that the Israelis who are, in fact, the descendants of people who have been persecuted for so many centuries, including the Nazi Holocaust, appear have concluded that the only way to behave towards others, especially those weaker than themselves, is to emulate those who persecuted them.
Clearly, the lesson of persecution is not understanding and compassion towards the underdog but brutality and fear of his reprisal.
Thus, in turn, we can expect the Palestinians/Muslims who are now being oppressed to behave, when their turn comes and come it will, in exactly the same way as the Israelis. And it's no wonder the Israelis, and their lobbyists in the US who are behind this war, are so frightened of the future.
As an "insurance policy" to protect against this fear they may feel it necessary to perform "regime change" in all the Muslim countries but they can never change what is in the hearts of the people who have been affected by their actions. |
