... otro dicho mejicano ;-) .... i have this guilty feeling that i should know more about what is happening in Venezuela, but then realise that just lately i was shocked and surprised by what a regional district here had done concerning an area through which i must drive to get to this house .... no idea what possessed them to change their minds in the way they did - miss a few meetings and you're absolutely outta touch in this modern world, it seems .... three venezolanos with whom i've spoken directly in re Chávez et al, had three widely separated opinions and allegiances ..... separate facts even, as in all disputes .... last summer there was a guy here, highly interesting history and position there, can't put any of it online, too sensitive maybe [? - although i don't know that, it just seems he could be identified and perhaps persecuted if i typed out his job description] ... but he was very much a chavista, strident, passionate on the topic once i'd raised the idea that C had to go, he was damaging the country no matter which way you looked at it ...... the feeling did come across, rightly or wrongly, that he was on the verge of realising that himself, just letting loose the last blasts of support for his leader, knowing how futile they were [but that was all supposition on my part, could easily be wrong]
So, it's hard to say ..... worst possible thing would be for the US to interfere, imho, there has been far too much of that in the past, with some really filthy hands employed at the moment by the current administration ... it would be good to see more involvement by Canada and México in inter-americanos affairs, never in pushy manner though, at the end of the day venezolanos must work it out among themselves
It'll settle down eventually, this here is a temporary lull in the storm though, looks like .... one thing that would be interesting to know, is how much difference will be made by the elections permitted by the constitucion in this coming august, and will C now permit those elections? ..... got to check into this soon ..... cheers Howy, later |
