Ray, here's a link to the audio interview of Mr. Browning from the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI), speaking about the dramatic increase that they have found in battery life in hybrid and pure electric vehicles. Instead of the need to change battery packs after 70k or so miles, they now expect them to last at least 150k miles, and even more if they are only discharged 50%. The plug-in hybrid concept is what I am most excited about. I think that a hybrid 30, would be the most practical for most people. I rarely drive more than 30 miles unless I take a trip, so I would be driving an electric most of the time. The life cycle cost is actually predicted to be lower than a gas car.
