Re: You seem to believe the US president is on the driver seat in Israel and the Middle East issues. Surely, Bush's in the driver's seat, yet, he's not the only one driving along the Mideast freeway --many other cars and trucks clog his path... and the Israeli truck keep cutting in front of him. Most people believe that the US Prez --the so-called Commander-in-Chief-- is all-powerful and surrounded by mere advisers and yes men... Well, such a state of affairs may be true of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, a microstate, or even France, a rather centralized, medium-sized power but it doesn't apply to the US. Especially in foreign affairs, I see the US prez more as a figurehead amidst a nexus of conflicting forces. And it's not up to a single US president to reshuffle the geopolitical fabric overnight...
