>>Kadyrov urges EU to focus on Iraq instead of Chechnya

GROZNY. April 9 (Interfax-South) - Chechen administration chief Akhmad Kadyrov has urged the European Union to focus on the Iraq crisis instead of debating human rights in Chechnya.

In a draft resolution submitted to the UN Commission on Human Rights on Tuesday, the European Union expressed concern over "the ongoing human rights violations" in Chechnya.

In a draft resolution submitted to the UN Commission on Human Rights on Tuesday, the European Union expressed concern over "the ongoing human rights violations" in Chechnya.

"The European Union should focus on ending the war in Iraq. Hundreds of civilians die there and cities and villages are being destroyed. Bombs are being dropped on monuments that are of value to all humankind, but the European Union and other European organizations keep silent," Kadyrov said.

"Conclusions about the situation in Chechnya cannot be made after one-day trips to the republic. To draft UN addresses, one should stay in Chechnya for at least a month and meet with the people who live there," he said. [RU EUROPE ASIA EEU VIO DEF EMRG POL] sa tl <> <<
