- Put yourself in the position of a person born 30-40 years ago in Iraq. Such a person has no idea what democracy means, having been repressed for all/most of their life. To transform Iraq even into a pseudo-democracy will take many years. One's mindset need to re-adjust. Does not happen in a month or a year or 2. That was exactly the situation in Italy in 1945. They had never had a Democracy. We took over with a Military Gov, and even the people running it said it could not be done. When we left two years later Italy had a Democracy.
