Yes, the 2002 version is listed in control panel. I'll remove it. It didn't seem to bother ME that it was still in there, but I realize XP is a very different animal.

If 2003 gave me a warning, I would have certainly heeded it. I must have missed it like you said.

I'm afraid I've got one fine mess here. There is no system restore or system information available under system tools. Clicking on them yields a quick hour glass, and then nothing.
