<<Listening to the UN politicos, I don't hear them worrying about it half as much as the humanitarian catastrophe that they are so sure that the US is about to cause in Iraq.>>

We'll just have to wait and see Nadine......as you can tell I don't believe in this war. I'm not going to go into the whole justification/evidence/UN issues as we're definitely 180 degrees out of phase on these! Obviously it's great that we've got this evil bastard out of there but at what price?....that's been my main concern all along. The next coming months will answer that question. I believe that the democratization of Iraq is going to be a whole lot more difficult than this current administration thinks, but what do I know?!?!? I'm sincere in this when I say I hope I'm wrong.....I'll make a point of PM'ing you if I am!

I saw on News World International last night that kids in Basra have already taken to throwing rocks at British tanks......see where I'm heading (West Bank, Gaza, Belfast) and next on the list Baghdad & Basra. No matter how rosy a picture people try to place on this liberation the bottom line is we will be "occupying" this nation for the foreseeable future. I grew up in a country that has an "occupying" force in part of it and I've seen first hand the feelings that this produces. Remember that the British army first came into Northern Ireland in the late sixties to protect the Catholics from Protestant aggression......the welcome was short lived however by the Catholics when they realized that the British army would be staying indefinitely! The rest, as they say, is history. You see the similarities here.....good intentions are noble but when the welcoming parties are over and done with we get down to the real heart of the matter and that's when the true feelings rise to the surface. Rumsfeld and Wolfowitz might need to be talking to the Israeli and British forces on tips on how to (or not to) deal with this!

I can't remember who said it yesterday (Sun Tzu maybe J Snyder) but it's a very very good point.......we need to set up an Iraqi security force ASAP so that the American presence is minimized as much as possible. Having M1 Abrams and US Marines patrolling the streets of Baghdad keeping order will not go over well. Just my thoughts.

MON.
