Dan - I am trying to follow this. Do you mean that ERICY is going to push for a W-CDMA (their version) which is backward compatible with CDMA and GSM? Or are you saying that Qcom and Ericy are going to get together for a common standard which is both backward GSM and backward CDMA compatible? I tend to think of backwards compatible with respect to specific standards but you seem to be suggesting backwards compatibility with both standards. I have been assuming QCOM is working together with Lucent, Mot, NT for backward compatibility of B-CDMA with CDMAOne only. I realize QCOM is working with Vodafone for a CDMA overlay over GSM but this means (I think) a dual mode CDMA/GSM phone much as there is a dual mode Cdma/analog phone in the US. Dual mode is different than backward compatible.
