Ed, the only reason wars are fought are for political or economic gain. It isn't about WMD's, terrorism, eliminating Communism, freeing the slaves, or for the Glory of Rome. It's about political or economic gain.
There's always two reasons for going to war. One that is told to the public and then the real reasons. The President doesn't get his news from CNN or MTV. There are always reasons the public can't be privy to what's really going on. Whether that's right or wrong, I'm not going debate or justify, although I think this war was justified.

Wars are always going to be fought as long as their are human emotions. As long as greed and ambition are a part of the human experience, wars will be fought. I think it was Plato that said, "Only the dead have seen the end of war."

If we are going to fight a war, I'd prefer to do it from a position of strength and I'd prefer to do it where we garner some political and/or economic gain.

This war was over more than oil and WMD's. It was a war that needed to be fought, in my opinion, and one that was fought very well. The casualty rate was far lower than most people anticipated and was accomplished in the time frame initially set by the administration.

I know you have a lot of "what ifs" that need to be answered but, you eat the elephant one bite at a time. So far, this administration has shown tremendous courage and has come through with a plan that was nearly flawless. A job well done in my opinion.
