That you look funny claiming Iraqis (not to mention the other Muslims around the world) will not mind Christian missionary efforts to anyone who knows anything at all about Iraqis, Middle Eastern people, and Muslims in general.
Sorry to be harsh, but ignorance about other people's attitudes, especially re their belief systems is a very dangerous place to be when you are facing increasing global resentment and fearing terrorism against your own people.
I don't have anything to gain by telling you this. Their religion is very important to these people, in case you have not noticed it. Especially at a time when they are invaded and the invader is trying to persuade them (and the world) that they are there only to remove their dictator and not out of some imperialist motive, missionary zeal is not a smart way to initiate conduct with Iraqis.
Let's remember the priorities - democracy, better living conditions, a move away from fundamentalist Islam. In about a year, when you make progress on these, missionaries would pass A BIT easier. Still, you will run the risk of people turning to religious fundamentalism and igniting the already pretty hot situation re Muslims feeling Bush is aggressing their religion.
I happen to think that risk is not worth some additional Christians. |
