<<it seems that the USA is planning on using the Iraqi oil to fund Iraq, presumably through the UN at some stage, >>

Follow the money, my friend.

It's actually closer to $4 trillion in proven reserves, declared as $1.1 trillion, to be "administered" by US and UN groups with oil cos doing the merchandising, booking a $3 trillion profit. At least Iraqis get 1/4 of their wealth, right? Wrong, the plan is for the Iraqi people to get their money from a trust fund in the form of a loan payable at interest through the UN. IOW, they give up 3/4 of their oil value, then pay interest for the last 1/4.

Actually, according to this source if you include the category of "possible and proven reserves" its 220 billion barrels. At $25/bbl thats $5.5 trillion. Nice contract, to manage that flow.

Therein lies the reason Bush Inc. smashed Iraq, rather than any other country in the world, regardless of famine, terrorism, WMD threats, etc. It's all about the money.

Just imagine the millions in campaign contributions to Bush, Inc. in '04, whew ! It'll be enough to buy up every media there is. Forget about the "hearts and minds", just buy the entire media and hogtie the public.
