While I understand the spirit of your post and it's true that a lot of liberals are probably upset with the fact that so much money is going to the war machine and leaving little money for their own pet projects. I certainly wonder why we need to spend $100 Billion to destroy and rebuild Iraq when we have all sorts of needs at home that would benefit everyone, liberal and conservative alike. Nothing wrong with questioning our government. We are a free country.

But, I think you're missing my point. 9/11 should be a wake up call to any rational person who is interested in the defense of our country. Why we had such a lame defense that couldn't even scramble planes to defend DC, while we spend $300 B to $400 B a year on "defense" and have spent over $10 Trillion on "defense" over the past 50 years should concern anyone who wants to see our country properly defended. It makes you wonder what in the hell are we defending? We have troops and equipment in countries from South Korea to Germany to Kuwait, yet can't even defend our own capitol properly. I assume that regardless of your political idealogy you want to see Washington, DC defended properly. Seems like it should be a higher priority then defending Kuwait or Japan or Germany. Who the hell are we defending Germany from these days anyway? Pot smokers from Amsterdam. The S.U. is gone. Bring the boys home. And don't tell me it's because Clinton and the Democrats cut the budgets, because the Republicans have been in control in Congress for years now. There's plenty of money to go around to put troops in countries all over the world, but when it comes to defending our own capitol we weren't capable of doing so. Something doesn't add up in that picture. And it should concern all Americans.
